Opera Incubator aims to invite young, active opera professionals to Kintai, Lithuania and inspire them for future collaborations. Far away from the city life, we will explore what does opera mean to us nowadays and how we, young opera professionals, could enter opera world with a new energy. During the residency we will interpret various opera scenes and create opera-promenade, which will be performed as the final event. Organisers will document and publicise the project.
The organiser of the incubator is opera director Karina Novikova. She has participated in opera director course in London (Stage Directors UK), assisted at Opera Holland Park (London), has worked as an intern at Dutch and Swiss national opera theatres. Karina aims to call together international team for future opera productions. She will lead sessions on interpretation of the opera scenes, active acting and singing.
One of the themes of the incubator – opera as an accessible form of art. Kintai Arts Residency encourages artists and local community to communicate and collaborate. The participants will have a session where they will have to find out, what does opera mean for locals and to share their own point of view. Kintai community will be invited to join an opera screening and discuss the production afterwords. Opera-promenade will transform familiar Kintai places into the opera scena. The established connection with the community will create a special atmosphere of trust and respect vital for successful future productions.
Opera incubator consists of two parts:
June 15-17th discussions, workshops, interactions with Kintai community, opera screening.
June 18-21st the opera-promenade will be created, rehearsed and performed in a site specific environment. Morning dance sessions near the lagoon.
